Incoming students are eligible to apply for a number of scholarships in the School of Art and Design and the University. The scholarships and their respective requirements for application are itemized below:
Academic Scholarships for partial tuition waivers are awarded by the Office of Records and Registration. Awards are based on high achievement on the American College Testing (ACT) Program Assessment Test. Any student with a score of 26 or higher on the ACT and/or who ranks in the top 10% of his or her high school class is invited to compete for these scholarships. Talent Scholarship for partial tuition waivers, awarded by the School of Art and Design. Awards are based on portfolio evaluation. Students interested in competing for these scholarships must have the following on file by March 15:
a. Application for admission to Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
b. Scholar/Talent Award Application form.
c. Portfolio of applicant's art work. The portfolio should be submitted to the School of Art and Design and contain 12-15 images. Include a cover letter of application that includes a statement of plan of study.
d. A biography or resume.
e. Two letters of recommendation from persons who best know the student's work, usually his or her instructors. These letters should also be submitted to the School of Art and Design. Items b, c, d, and e should be submitted in one package.
Two special monetary awards from the John R. and Eleanor R. Mitchell Foundation in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, awarded by the School of Art and Design. The scholarship committee will name two Mitchell Scholars for the academic year. To be eligible for these scholarships, students must reside in one of the lower 34 counties of Illinois. Students who wish to compete for these must submit the same materials as in (2), also by March 15.
Minority Award. At least one of the Talent or Mitchell Scholarships will be awarded to a member of a traditional underrepresented group. Any inquiries and information should be addressed to:

Art History Endowment Scholarship. Art History Endowment Scholarships are intended for incoming students interested in, and continuing students pursuing, an art history major.

Research Enriched Academic Challenge (REACH)
Students admitted to SIUC are eligible for financial aid. There are basic regulations that relate to these awards. Information regarding the federal work-study program and loans may be obtained by contacting the Financial Aid Office.
Financial assistance is available to qualified students in all fields of study in the form of:
Graduate assistantships where one serves as a classroom teacher or assistant, as a research assistant, or as an administrative assistant;
Fellowships or traineeships
Scholarships
Federal work-study programs
Loans - There are basic regulations that relate to these awards.
Students should make application for graduate assistantships, fellowships, or traineeships through the department to which they have been admitted. Information and application forms for the tuition scholarship program may be obtained from the Graduate School office. Information regarding the federal work-study program and loans may be obtained by contacting the SIUC Financial Aid Office.
