JoAnna Johnson, MFA '00, now is represented by the Alan Klotz Gallery in New York City. After an April meeting with Alan Klotz, JoAnna's photography was accepted and her solo exhibition, "30 Dresses: Recent Color Photographs," was scheduled for July 9-August 21, 2009.

Esteban del valle, BFA '07, will complete his MFA at RISD at the end of this month with a thesis show in Providence, RI. He will also exhibit his work in a group show, "Geography of Imagination," curated by Phong Bui, editor of the Brooklyn Rail. The show begins June 5 in New York City. Additionally, Esteban begins a residency at Hub Bub Artist in Residency Program in Spartanburg, SC, on June 1. He will also exhibit his work along with top MFA students at Art Chicago 2009, and he is the recipient of the Toby Devan Lewis Fellowship.
Grant Cox, BFA '09, will attend the University of Delaware beginning in the fall. He will receive a 100% Tuition Scholarship for the fall of 2009 and will begin a graduate teaching assistantship in the spring of 2010.

Yoshi Fujii, MFA '08 Ceramics, received the 2008-09 Lormina Salter Fellowship and is a resident artist at Baltimore Clayworks in Maryland. Yoshi exhibits the accomplishments of his first-year residency in the solo show, "Message: To Whom I Want," from June 2-August 1 at the Baltimore Clayworks Exhibition Gallery. Joanna Johnson, MFA ‘ 00, received the Award of Excellence for her entry, “Black Dresses,” in the Regional Juried Art Exhibition at the MSC Forsyth Center Galleries, Texas A & M University. JoAnna also exhibits her photography in “No Man’s Land,” at Hungry’s Gallery, Houston, TX, from April 11-May 11, 2009. JoAnna was the Hungry's Gallery 2008 Grant Recipient, which was juried in part by Madeline Yale, Executive Director and Curator of the Houston Center for Photography. Her portfolio, Living In Between, was selected for Artists’ ShowCase Portfolio Show, Volume 2, Issue 1. This is both an online exhibition and a published catalog. In the juror’s statement for the catalog/show Rixon Reed, Director of Photo-Eye Gallery in Santa Fe, NM says, “JoAnna Johnson’s wonderful pictures of dresses very carefully and purposefully placed in the landscape…go beyond the obvious to question the nature of existence itself in a very creative way.” JoAnna is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Texas Tech University.
Melissa Vandenberg, MFA '05, exhibits her work in the solo show "Soft Power," at Halcyon Contemporary Art at The Swope Educational Center, Terre Haute, IN, May 1-30, 2009, with a lecture May 14 at 5:30 p.m. Melissa has accepted a tenure track position as Foundations Head at Eastern Kentucky University, just south of Lexington, KY.

David Linneweh, MFA ‘ 07 Painting, will exhibit his work in “Paintpresent,” March 14-April 26 at the Lexington Art League, Lexington, KY; “Landscape Affected,” April 3-May 3 at the Haggerty Gallery, the University of Dallas, Irving, TX; and “Build Me Up, Tear Me Down,” April 2-May 9 at Platform Gallery, Denise Birbro Fine Art, New York, NY. David is also featured artist on the Little Paper Planes website.
Nancy Palm, BA ’01 Art History, a Ph.D. candidate at Indiana University, was a pre-doctoral fellow at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in 2008-9. On May 14, 2009, she delivered the lecture, “Drawing from the Archive: Thomas Cole’s Indian Sketches” at the Smithsonian.
Merry Lanker, BFA '08 in Art Education, was hired immediately in January 2009 by Decatur Public Schools. She is teaching "art on a cart" in three public elementary schools, and loves her job. Merry was a recent recipient of the REACH award and she promoted an art and literacy program through the Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale. She also ran Saluki Cross Country, still comes back to Carbondale on the weekends to work at the Center for Comprehensive Services, and was a University Honors Student. In addition, Merry will present her research at the National Art Education Association Convention in April.
Kim Windisch, BFA '08 Art Education, is now in India teaching art in the Kodaikanal area of Tamil Nadu. She works side by side with former SIUC art alum, Ann Perks,to educate children of the untouchable class who would not ordinarily have education opportunities. Now a new non-profit, www.help-kids-india.org is a connection we hope will be the beginning of a partnershipfor service learning in the arts in the Art Education Program.
Kara Rosenberg, BFA '07 in Art Education, is teaching at a charter school on Chicago's South Side for the second year. Her students recently raised the funds and went to Washington, DC, for President Obama's inauguration. We are so proud of the work that she has accomplished in Chicago!
We are also proud of the following spring '08 graduates in Art Education--all of whom are teaching art in southern Illinois! Libby Summers, Nathan Corbit, Jennifer Locey, and Will LaGory--along with Kara Rosenberg--came back to speak with students in our program this past January. They gave upcoming job seekers wonderful advice and shared their enthusiasm for teaching.

Jacci Delaney, BFA in glass and BA in art history (2008), is publishing her senior thesis in art history (directed by Carma Gorman) as a four-part series titled "Why is Glass Still Ignored in the Mainstream Art World?" in GAS News, the newsletter of the Glass Art Society. Amanda Cook, BA '08 in art history and history, a graduate student in art history at the University of California, Riverside, was awarded a $5000.00 Gluck Fellowship from the Gluck Foundation to teach 10 art history lectures at local schools. The Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts is the premier arts outreach program at the University of California, Riverside. Each year, the Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts provides fellowships to exceptional UC Riverside undergraduate and graduate students to conduct arts-related presentations, performances, and workshops in schools, residential facilities for elderly care and community centers.
Kevin Curry, MFA ’08, received a grant from the Idea Fund, a re-granting program administered through DiverseWorks Artspace, Aurora Picture Show and Project Row Houses, and funded through the Andy Warhol Foundation. “Curry, a nationally-exhibited artist who was raised overseas (Puerto Rico, South Africa, Australia) and exposed to multiple countries and cultures. Robin Rogers, MFA '08, has an upcoming solo installation/glass exhibition, "Inner Spaces," in Columbus, Ohio, at Chop Chop Gallery. This is an important show for Robin because of its content and location. The large scale interactive sculptures in this show has been developing for the last three years and the location is his home town only 2 blocks from where he lived as an undergraduate.

Nel Bannier, MFA '99, was selected as artist-in-residence for 2007/2008 at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Shigaraki, Japan. Her work as an artist-in-residence was featured in a solo exhibition August 12-Sept. 15, 2008 at the Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art, Shigaraki, Japan. Additionally, the work "Pacifiers," a ceramic installation of a boy and a girl on skateboards, was selected for the 5th World Ceramic Biennale Korea 2009 at Icheon, Korea.
Kay Hwang, BFA '94 (MFA '00 University of Georgia), was awarded a Pollack Krasner Grant. The Pollock-Krasner Foundation makes grants to painters, sculptors, and other visual artists working in two-dimensional media (excluding photographers) who demonstrate artistic merit and financial need. Grants are intended for a one-year time period.
Paul Bonelli, MFA '95, New Jersey printmaker, exhibited his recent wood cuts at Bing-Davis Memorial Gallery, Edgar Fine Arts Hall, Upper Iowa University, Fayette, November 13-December 18, 2008. Work in this exhibition was from his Everyman (Saints) Series, The Supermarket Series, and Ecclesiastes Series. Bonelli's prints reference everything from biology to history, to religion, to popular culture through imagery of common objects and situations.

Rachel Clarke, MFA '01, exhibited her work in "Somnuim Redux," a newe media interactive installation with audio composition and design by M. Zzevedo, at Block Gallery, Sacramento, CA, from October 11 through the 26th.
Kevin Curry, MFA '08, was one of 3 artists selected to exhibit work in the 2008 Baum MFA Biennial. The exhibit will take place in the Baum Gallery of Fine Art at Central Arkansas University. The Baum MFA Biennial Competitive invites submissions by artists who have completed their MFA exhibit and degree in 2007 or 2008. This biennial competitive awards a post-graduate exhibit of all or a portion of selected artists’ MFA thesis work: the 2008 emphasis is 3D construction in all media. Juror is Justin Novak, ceramicist and Associate Professor of Art at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, Canada. Selected bodies of work will be featured in the Baum MFA Biennial Exhibition scheduled for September 18 – October 30, 2008. Images and artists will be featured in the accompanying brochure and in web and print media.
Matthew Carter, BFA '05 was accepted into the graduate fine arts program at Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles, CA.

Kate Nelson had work accepted into the 17th National Ceramic Competition at the San Angelo Musuem of Art in San Angelo, Texas (juror Anna Harris) and The Jersey Shore Clay National in Surf City, New Jersey (juror Dan Hammon). Kate is currently a studio technician at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX.
