Anita Powell, MFA '89, Ceramics, has actively exhibited her ceramic sculptures in numerous national juried exhibitions for over two decades. She is currently exhibiting her work at the Craft Alliance in St. Louis, MO.

Her most recent achievements include an article on her work, published in the Australian publication, Ceramics: Art and Perspective, inclusion in the book, 500 Ceramic Sculptures, Lark Publications, and inclusion through purchase into the Kamm Foundation's Teapot Collection. She is currently enjoying her job, teaching art to non-majors at Ball State University, in Muncie, IN. She keeps a studio in the Evansville area where she maintains connections with family and friends. A sampling of some of her recent work is shown below.


Melissa Vandenberg, MFA '05, Sculpture, received grant approval from Eastern Kentucky University for her project "Middleland." She will be traveling "border states" in the central US, exploring and documenting the region's "distinctive identity through a series of photos, drawings, paintings and sculptures." Tim Kowalczyk, BFA '08, Ceramics, has 4 pieces in the National Biennial Ceramics Invitational, Parkland Art Gallery, and one piece in the Central Time Zone Show at Bradley University, Peoria, IL. Tim is halfway through the MFA program at Illinois State University with graduation on the horizon spring 2011.

Kathleen "Kat" Shaffner, BA '76, Art, exhibits her acrylic paintings at Central Showcase at Realty Central, Carbondale, IL, February 22-April 3, 2010.

M. Ben Cohan, MFA' 09, and Jake Wells, MFA '09, exhibit their recent works at the Yeiser Art Center, Paducah, KY, February 27-March 27, 2010.

Siona Benjamin, MFA '89, exhibits her work in the acclaimed Culture in Transition Series which marks its fifth year with Transitional/Transcultural: New Paradigms for a New Century - "an exhibition by 8 artists whose work explores the changing character of world culture and the complexity of their multicultural identities." The exhibition is at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design January 15-February 27.

Dana Hargrove, MFA '01, was awarded tenure last year at Rollins College, Winter Park, FL; she is currently on sabbatical. She won the First Place 2009 William and Dorothy Yeck $10,000 Purchase Award, in the National Young Painters Competition, Hiestand Galleries, Miami University, Oxford, OH, juried by Bob Nugent. She also had a solo exhibition with Miami University titled, "Mediated Landscapes", Hiestand Gallery, Dec/Jan 2010. Her solo show, "Point of Departure," is at the College of Saint Benedict/Saint Johns University, Collegeville, MN, Feb- March 2010.

Justin Diggle, MFA '97, shows his recent prints in "Visual Investigations," February 16-March 15 at the Bing-Davis Memorial Gallery, Edgar Fine Arts Hall, Upper Iowa University, Fayette, Iowa. Justin is an Associate Professor of Printmaking at the University of Utah.
Akiva Kenny Segan, BA '77, Director, Holocaust/Genocide, Education through Art, will participate in a lecture on Wed., Feb. 10, at the Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery, Prifysgol Bangor University, Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales, UK.

Luca Cruzat, MFA '06 , Printmaking, has work in two shows. A Real Fake: Truth in the Meaning, will be at Adirondack Community College's Visual Arts Gallery, Queensbury, NY, Feb. 25-March 3. This show is a portfolio of 10 artists from around the country in the field of printmaking. Additionally, Luca's work was accepted into the spring show, COMMUNinkATE: Mid-America Print Council Members Exhibition, in the Elzay Gallery at Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio, March 8-April 30.

Molly Groom Alter, MFA '08, Metals, had 3 pieces accepted in the National Juried Exhibition, Textural Patois, at the Allen Priebe Art Gallery, University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. The show opens February 18th, 2010.
Tiffany Cochran, BFA '09, Communication Design & Advertising, has been accepted into the postgraduate program at AUT (Auckland University of Technology) in Auckland, New Zealand.
Rachel Clarke, MFA '01, exhibited her work at the Block Gallery in October, with audio composition and design by M. Azevedo. Clarke is an Associate Professor of Electronic Art in the Art Department at California State University, Sacramento, and the current Vice-President of the CAA New Media Caucus and Editor-in-Chief of the online journal MEDIA-N, an international journal of digital and media arts. She will also exhibit her work in "Between," a multi-media interactive installation, at The Reynolds Gallery, University of the Pacific, from Nov. 11-Dec. 14.

Robin Rogers, MFA '08, and Julia Rogers, BFA '08, have created a line of inexpensive, hand-blown and hand-painted glass ornaments (Robin is pictured, right). They had a lot of fun coming up with the new color combinations and Wren, who is five now, loves to help pack them up for shipping. The ornaments are available on their website at http://www.nomadicglass.com/ornaments.html. Robin and Julia are in Bowling Green, OH. Julia will graduate with her MFA in the spring and then they are uncertain where the wind will blow them.
Bill Costantino, BFA '09, Communication Design, was hired by Schawk as a creative director/graphic designer.

John Medwedeff, MFA '91, BFA '86, designed the Sculptural Pavilion in Murphysboro, IL. The image, left, is a one of the panels being lifted from the truck by the crew from the Zahner Company.
